Let’s Bake: Youth Baking Program

Description:

Let’s Bake! is a fun, hands-on baking program designed to introduce high school youth to the joy, creativity, and science of baking.

Participants learn foundational baking techniques, kitchen safety, teamwork, and problem-solving while preparing simple and enjoyable recipes such as cookies, brownies, muffins, and mini cakes.

The program emphasizes nutrition, health and wellness, and introduces youth to the idea of baking and culinary arts as a potential career path or positive life alternative.

Focus: Black Youth 13-17 years
Registration: Required

Duration: 5 Months (1 class per month)

Session Length: 1.5–2 hours per class

Location: Malton Youth Hub — 3545 Morning Star Drive (Behind Lincoln M. Alexander)

Goals & Objectives

The goal of the Let’s Bake! program is to provide youth with hands-on baking experiences that build confidence, creativity, and practical life skills. Through guided instruction, and nutrition education, the program supports youth in developing positive habits, and exploring baking and culinary arts as a meaningful and sustainable pathway.

By the end of the program, participants will:

  • Understand and practice basic baking techniques.

  • Learn safe food handling and kitchen safety procedures.

  • Gain confidence working in a kitchen environment.

  • Develop creativity through flavour combinations and presentation.

  • Strengthen teamwork, communication, and sharing skills.

  • Understand the importance of nutrition, balance, and wellness in daily life.
